A Louisiana mother posted provocative photos on social media advertising on her OnlyFans account – also discussing drugs and sex – days after her toddler son was found dead from a fentanyl overdose in a motel room, the defendant’s sister said in her victim impact statement this week urging a judge to give her sister the maximum penalty.
Summer Cheyanne Buxton, 21, was sentenced to eight years in prison after agreeing to plead guilty to manslaughter in the death of her son, 1-year-old Keynan Jay Buxton.
The defendant’s sister and aunt of the victim, Kayla Lyons, said in her victim impact statement, which she posted on Facebook, that her sister has no remorse and went online days after her son died posting about herself and her lifestyle.
Lyons said the judge told Buxton at her sentencing that “he can see it in her eyes she has no remorse.”
“He can see that she has a disconnect from reality & that she is missing something,” Lyons wrote, referring to the judge.
“Summer is proud of the life she lived,” she added. “She brags about the fact that her ‘sugar daddy’ is the one who is paying for her attorney.”
Lyons said justice was not served, decrying the short prison stint handed down and saying her sister will likely be out of prison in seven years, at most, when she’ll be 28.
“How do you give someone 8 years, for the death of her child.. but you can receive up to 10 years for animal abuse?” the defendant’s sister asked rhetorically.
The defendant’s attorneys called the death accidental.
“Our client suffered from a severe drug addiction that impaired her better judgment,” her lawyers said in a statement. “We did not believe that her conduct constituted the offense of manslaughter. We felt all along that negligent homicide was the more appropriate charge. However, the DA’s office refused to reduce the charge, but they did make us a very fair and reasonable offer.”
The baby was found dead in a motel room on May 30, 2023, with methamphetamine-fentanyl and acetyl fentanyl in his system. The boy’s father, Adrian Higgins, was arrested and ultimately sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to a manslaughter charge.
Buxton was arrested in January 2024 at a motel in Mississippi.
A second woman was also arrested in the case. She has a court hearing set for March 3.
Keynan followed his little brother in death, his obituary said.
“He was welcomed into Heaven Tuesday, May 30, 2023 by his brother AJ and great grandparents, Danny & Claudine Stuber, Leroy Abshire Sr., and Hubert Labauve,” the obituary said.
He loved his Hot Wheels and anything with tires that spun.
“He loved going to the park and swinging and when he could not play outside he watched Cocomelon, his favorite character being the Star,” the obituary reads.
