A South Carolina woman who allegedly struck her husband with her SUV then had her kids put him in the car to bring him home has been charged with attempted murder.
Brittany Rose Hernandez, 35, was accused striking her 44-year-old husband with her Chevy Traverse near an intersection in Forest Acres, South Carolina on Tuesday. According to Forest Acres Police, a witness saw a pedestrian get hit and “dragged” by an SUV between 6:35 and 6:45 p.m. that day and they called 911.
When police arrived, the alleged victim was nowhere to be found.
“Officers responded to the scene, but by the time they arrived, the injured man had disappeared,” the statement from Forest Acres police said.
The same witness who saw the alleged incident also told police that they saw two children put the victim into the SUV, which then drove away. The investigation revealed that the entire alleged incident was caught on nearby surveillance camera.
Police said their investigation led them to the home of Hernandez and her husband, who was not named in the press release, but was found in the home suffering from “serious injuries” the day after the alleged incident. He reportedly had not been taken to the hospital after being struck by the SUV. He was taken to the hospital “immediately,” and his current condition was not made available.
According to a police report obtained by WACH, a local Fox affiliate, Hernandez and her husband were having a fight and pulled into the parking lot of a business on Forest Drive. Hernandez went inside to purchase alcohol. When she returned, her husband exited the car — but Hernandez turned the SUV around to follow him.
Surveillance video reportedly shows the husband walking away from the SUV, after which Hernandez allegedly took a sharp turn, plowed into her husband, and dragged him underneath the vehicle for about 10 feet. At that point, cameras caught the image of two minor children getting out of the car and putting the alleged victim into the SUV, which then drove off.
Hernandez was booked into the Richmond County Jail and charged with attempted murder. She was scheduled for a bond hearing on Friday.
