An Iowa man allegedly shot his father in the face during an argument over stinky feet.
Burlington police officers responded to a home in the 2000 block of Monarch Drive for a shooting. The suspect, 48-year-old David Carpenter, was standing outside and told cops he shot his father, a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime said. Paramedics went inside the home and found the victim William Carpenter, who was rushed to the hospital for what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.
In an interview with police, David Carpenter said he and his dad were in the living room when his father “told him that his feet stink,” the complaint said. That led to a “heated argument between the two of them over family issues,” cops wrote. The father then allegedly “made a comment about shooting him,” according to the complaint. David Carpenter reportedly said he went to the bedroom, grabbed a gun and walked back into the living room where his father was sitting in a motorized scooter.
“David stated that he had the gun behind his back, yelling at William about ‘guns’ when he pulled the firearm out from behind his back and pointed it at William’s face and accidentally pulled the trigger which then shot William in the face,” cops wrote.

Detectives interviewed the victim at the hospital who confirmed his son’s account, the complaint said. Cops also noted that there were two kids under the age of 14 watching TV in the home at the time of the shooting.
Cops arrested David Carpenter on charges of attempted murder and child endangerment and took him to the Des Moines County Jail where he is being held on $10,000 cash-only bond. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 21.
