Inset: Monica Tutt (Dallas County Jail). Background: Scene of the crash (KXAS).

A drunk woman who crashed into parked cars left her severely injured son at the scene of the crash and complained to police that “her chance at a nursing career was over,” cops said in a report from Dallas, Texas, Fox affiliate KDFW.

The 9-year-old son of Monica Tutt, 39, received a gash so deep his skull was visible, and he also had air in his brain, bleeding in his brain, and a fractured skull, officers said.

Authorities said that the crash happened early Wednesday morning on Arden Road in the Oak Cliff neighborhood when Tutt was speeding. According to cops, witnesses said the driver of the suspect vehicle tried to drive away, but it was too damaged.

“[The witness] yelled at the suspect to unlock the car while the suspect continued to yell and scream, attempting to start the car back up,” police wrote. “She stated it was obvious that the suspect was drunk.”

One of the witnesses, Van Hines, told Dallas-Fort Worth NBC affiliate KXAS the suspect driver “tried to crank it up and go.”

“She was hysterical,” he said.
