A 17-year-old girl in Texas teamed up with her 19-year-old boyfriend to murder the girl’s grandmother before going on the run together and sparking a “multi-jurisdictional manhunt,” police say.
Tammy King, 61, was gunned down by her granddaughter, Tara King, and the teen’s boyfriend, Uriah Urick, inside King’s Bacliff area home in the 4700 block of 15th Street, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. Both teens are charged with capital murder.
The elder King was found dead on Thursday by patrol deputies who were conducting a welfare check after a close friend reported not hearing from her. A nationwide search was launched for Tara King and Urick on Friday, with the teens’ photos being shared on Facebook by GCSO officials.
“The Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s help in locating these individuals for questioning,” a press release said. “At this time, we are following all leads and taking every necessary step to bring clarity to this tragic incident.”
On Sunday, the sheriff’s office announced the capture of Tara King and Urick in Laredo earlier in the day. “The suspects were apprehended … following an intensive investigation and a multi-jurisdictional manhunt,” police said. “The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives continue to work diligently to ensure justice for the victim.”

Tara King, who was identified as the victim’s granddaughter by local ABC affiliate KTRK, is a student at local Dickinson High School in Dickinson and Urick reportedly lived with her and her grandmother in Bacliff. Photos obtained by KTRK and local CBS affiliate KHOU show the teenage couple posing in photos together.
Tammy King had not been heard from for a week before the welfare check was conducted at her home. It’s unclear when she was killed.
