Shaylin Elizabeth Moore, a 22-year-old resident of Jonesboro, Arkansas, was charged with residential burglary and third-degree battery after an argument with her neighbor over outdoor Christmas decorations turned violent on Monday.
The neighbor, who was unnamed in the probable cause affidavit, claimed to police that Moore entered her apartment and assaulted her after the two had a disagreement about a setup of inflatable Christmas decorations that belonged to Moore. According to the affidavit, Moore asked the neighbor to control their dog from destroying the decorations. The conversation escalated into a “verbal argument,” and Moore later entered her neighbor’s apartment and started assaulting her.
According to the affidavit: “The victim stated she was sitting on her couch when Moore came inside, jumped on top of her, and began to punch her. The victim’s dog attempted to defend the victim and jumped toward Moore, scratching her face.”
Officers responded to the scene, during which time Moore “spontaneously admitted” that she initiated the fight after entering her neighbor’s home.
“[O]fficers kept advising Moore that they would speak to her shortly, but Moore kept talking, admitting that she did it,” the affidavit said.
Circuit Judge Barbara Halsey found probably cause to charge Moore with one count of residential burglary and one count of third-degree battery. Moore was taken into custody at the Craighead County Detention Center on Monday and released on a $10,000 bond on Tuesday.
Moore was ordered to have no contact with her neighbor as part of the condition of her bond and to stay at least 100 yards away from her residence.
When faced with the logistical fact that their apartments are adjacent to each other, Halsey told Moore: “That’s a problem, I understand, but it happens to be your problem.”
Moore is set to appear in court on Dec. 17.
