Sometimes, little girls can pack a big punch. An armed robber at a Minnesota liquor store found out the hard way over the weekend.
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, a man wearing an Amazon vest, later identified as 38-year-old Conchobhar Morrell, came into the Big Discount Liquors in Maplewood around 9:30 p.m. Saturday. After browsing some items, Morrell walked up to the employee and allegedly put a bottle of liquor and a BB gun that looked like a real firearm on the counter. He demanded all the money in the cash register.
“I told him yes, I’ll give you everything,” the store manager, identified as Leo, told Minneapolis CBS affiliate WCCO.
Leo’s daughter was also behind the daughter, and he told the suspect that he could have whatever he wanted as long as he didn’t harm his daughter. Morrell then allegedly walked behind the counter in an attempt to grab cash.
“I’m a dad. I’m not going to let that happen,” Leo said.
The video obtained by WCCO shows Leo punch Morrell in the face, and the two get into a scuffle. As they are wrestling on the ground, Leo’s daughter comes to the rescue armed with a baseball bat. She walks up to the robber and starts whacking him. After a few hits, she backs up while Morrell scurries away.
“I’m so proud of her. She’s so strong,” Leo said.
Officers from the Maplewood Police Department arrived and arrested Morrell who they found walking a few hundred feet north of the store. The employee positively identified Morrell as the suspect. Post Miranda, Morrell allegedly admitted that he worked for Amazon but denied being in the store or carrying a BB gun.
Cops took Morrell to the Ramsey County Jail, where he remains on a $40,000 bond for attempted aggravated robbery. A spokesperson for Amazon told WCCO Morrell was contracted through a third-party company and will no longer deliver packages for the company.
